Third Issue of Laaltain Magazine Coming Soon!

The 3rd issue of the Laaltain magazine is now in print and will be out soon. This issue celebrates ‘Faiz Year’ and pays homage to Faiz Ahamad Faiz’s poetic and political struggle. It also highlights some key issues in connection with the Arab uprisings and features interviews of two prominent journalists – Fasi Zaka and Wajahat Masood – along with several insightful contributions by young people across Pakistan. Recent Activities and Events:

Khudi Founder speaks at TEDGlobal

Khudi Founder Maajid Nawaz was invited to speak at the prestigious TEDGlobal conference held in Edinburgh this July. Maajid’s talk focused on the need to build democratic movementsTo date, the talk has received over 175,000 views. It can be viewed on the TED website here or on YouTube here.

Between Extremism & Dictatorship: Lessons from the Arab Spring

organised by Khudi at FC College Lahore. One of the leaders of Egyptian revolution Ramy Elswissy and Raza Naeem, a Pakistani academic/activist with extensive research on Middle East shared their experiences and perspectives, followed by lively Q&A session. The essential lesson of Arab Spring is that youth has to take the lead in democratic change.

Meeting with Parliamentarians
Khudi team members along with a dozen other students/professionals had a detailed meeting with PML (N) parliamentarians Hamza Shahbaz Sharif and Naseer Ahmed Bhutta. The purpose was to bridge gap between public representatives and youth. It was an engaging and critical discussion on issues of governance, policy making, service delivery and tackling extremism.
Workshop & Pakpattan Committee Formation

Khudi CEC members conducted a workshop at Virtual University, Pakpattan campus and come together with local volunteers to form the ‘Khudi Pakpattan Committee’. After detailed discussions on themes such as Pakistaniat (identity), extremism, democracy and youth activism, the 14-member committee formulated its scope and functions.

Discussion at GC University, Lahore

Khudi activists had a discussion on “Understanding and Countering Extremism in Pakistan” with students of Political Science students at GC University.

Fletcher Summer Institute

Khudi CEC member Imran Khan has been accepted as a representative of Khudi at the prestigious Fletcher Summer Institute, which takes place from 19th-26th June 2011 at the Fletcher School of TUFTS University, and specializes in the advanced study of non-violent conflict. course on Strategic Non-Violent Conflict at Fletcher International School, Tufts University.
